This has led to the formation of a vast array of definitions and perceptions regarding the flow of Islamic mysticism, which stem from the differing perspectives and approaches of researchers and scholars. Therefore, attention to this matter and the emphasis on concepts such as approach, method, and perspective have made methodological studies even more crucial, to the extent that ignoring this issue is considered one of the serious drawbacks in literary studies. This article, relying on the works of William Chittick, a renowned orientalist in the field of mysticism and Sufism, seeks to provide brief definitions of method, approach, and perspective, and distinguish between these concepts, as well as to analyze the approach of this orientalist's mystical works. We aim to highlight the fundamental elements and propositions that Chittick focuses on in his mystical studies. Additionally, by introducing author-centered hermeneutics as his study approach, we will examine Chittick's definition and perception of mysticism and its relationship with religion and revealed matters. Concepts such as the Imaginal World, the reflective nature of the created world, and the Perfect Human are the central elements that Chittick uses and approaches to study the flow of Islamic mysticism and Sufism. choosing this approach highlights the difference between his studies and those of other researchers. درکنار عارفان و پژوهشگران ایرانی، مستشرقان نیز نقش برجسته‌ای در شناساندنِ عرفان و تصوف اسلامی داشته‌اند. این امر منجربه شکل‌گیری ِحجم انبوهی از تعاریف و تلقی‌های گوناگون دربارۀ جریان عرفان اسلامی شده است که ریشه در چشم‌اندازها و رویکردهای متفاوت محققان و پژوهشگران دارد. بنابراین، توجه به این امر و پررنگ شدن مفاهیمی همچون رویکرد، روش، رهیافت و... لزوم توجه به مطالعات روش‌شناختی را دوچندان کرده است، تاجایی‌که عدم توجه به این امر یکی ازآسیب‌های جدی در مطالعات ادبی قلمداد می‌شود. مقالۀ حاضر با تکیه برآثار ویلیام چیتیک، یکی از مستشرقان بنامِ حوزۀ عرفان و تصوف، سعی دارد، ضمن ارائۀ تعاریف مختصری از روش، رویکرد، رهیافت و تمایزنهادن میان این مفاهیم به رویکردشناسی آثار عرفانی این مستشرق بپردازد. برآنیم که با مشخص کردن مؤلفه‌ها و گزاره‌های موردنظر چیتیک، اساسی‌ترین عناصر موردتوجه وی در مطالعات عرفانی را نشان دهیم. همچنین، با معرفی هرمنوتیک مؤلف‌محور به‌عنوان رویکرد مطالعاتی وی، تعریف و تلقی چیتیک از عرفان و رابطۀ آن با دین و امور وحیانی را بررسی می‌کنیم. تعابیری همچون عالم خیال، خاصیت آیینگی جهان آفرینش و انسان کامل، محوری‌ترین مؤلفه‌هایی هستند که چیتیک با استفاده و تقرب به آنها به بررسی جریان عرفان و تصوف اسلامی، پرداخته است.گزینش این رویکرد تفاوت مطالعات وی از دیگر محققان را نشان می‌هد. https://s-erfani.kashanu.ac.ir/article_115395_f28f988d4c6b485eb2f39ee89bb9beee.pdf
