Abstract
Devine custody is a celestial concept originating in verse 72, Ahzāb (the confederates) Surah and has always been a thoroughly discussed and hotly debated topic among Muslims and Muslim Mystics. The concept has undergone changes through time leading to the creation of new concepts including “Devine Custody’s burden” and “Man’s promise to God” arising from the mystics’ interpretations of the said verse. These two terms later were used outside mystic works turning into a pivotal supernatural concept in Persian romantic poetry. The said verse does not make a direct or indirect reference to “burden” or “promise”. A review of the entry into mystic literature of the said terms suggests that they originate in other factors and areas than Quran.
