Abstract

Sun is one of the figures that is used in mystical poems especially as a symbol of God or unity. This research is going to study symbolic aspects of sun in Rumi's Mathnawi-Ma΄nawi and its denotations in related with myths an archetypes to find the relationship between these two fields of application. Archetypes that are manifested in the form of symbol in poet's collective unconsciousness show us the respond. In the other word, Rumi has natural characteristics of sun and its related archetypes in his collective unconsciousness. In addition, his ideas about light and sun that is originated from Quran, and also his mystical faiths helps him to use the figure of sun as if it is close to myth and Mithraism, in one hand. On the other hand, he goes beyond this process and spreads his mystical ideas about sun especially in the symbol of God and his related concepts. This research is going to study the reflection of myth role of sun in Rumi's Mathnavi-Ma´nawi via a descriptive and analytic method.
