A Study on the Influential Theological Currents on Kalābadi’s Alta'aruf

Abstract

Although Abu-Bakr Muhammad al-Bukhāri Kalābadi (about 385 AH), the Hanafi jurist and mystic of the fourth century, has a mystical personality, but in the book "AlTa'aruf li-Madhhab ahl al-Taṣawwuf", took a special view on the theological issues. For example, he has been studied the problem of seeing God and dispensation in the same way as Abulghāsim Hakim, the forerunner of the Sunni school, and studied the issues about faith affected by the Iraq mystical school and Junayd of Baghdad, and explained the issues about God’ Power and Will, as Ash’arite school and Maturidi. The evolution of theological schools in Kalābadi’ period put AlTa'aruf under the effect of each of them separately. Multidimensional character of Kalabadhi was also effective in acceptance of different intellectual views in this regard. However, despite of noticing to basic principles of Tasawwof, this effectiveness paved the way to a new system of the theological and faithful concepts in this book. The authors of this article tried first to notice to the theological currents in Islam, means different sects of Sunni school (Maturidi and Abulghasim Hakim), Ash'arite school, Iraq school and Junayd of Baghdad, and then to show that the different chapters of AlTa'aruf are impressed by their theological and faithful thoughts.
