Abstract
Nature and various parts of the ecosystem are rapidly being destroyed due to human neglect, and researches are needed to appreciate animals and protect their rights. Environmental ethics is an important branch of the discussion of environmental protection and the purpose of this study is to present the moral approach of Sufis in respecting and valuing animals so that it can be presented and applied as a practical ethical model. In the biography of Sufis, mystical memoirs and mystical narrations, writings and anecdotes of many of their verbal and practical methods can be seen in compassion, appreciation and interest in animals, which shows the deep love and respect of Sufis towards animals. Loving and valuing animals in this article includes several main topics that have been addressed: companionship with domestic and non-domestic animals; learning from animals; Avoid cruelty to animals and quit eating meat; Compassion for animals; the friendship and service of animals to mystics; Speech and advice of mystics in honoring animals; Mystics sayings about the observance of animal rights, the positive effect of goodness on animals and the negative effect of oppression on animals. The method of this research is library studying and the description and analysis of the collected data show that Sufis have been a special group of religious people who have long had a special interest in animals in their moral behavior, and have respected their rights and inherently valued them.
