Abstract

Masnavi Moulavi is among the books which words have various meanings. In current study which takes descriptive– analytical perspective and is conducted by using library resources, different meanings of the wind are investigated. The finding of this study indicated that wind, like other words, has different sematic functions and presents itself efficiently. Wind is used in Masnavi for three hundred and three times with the most and fewest frequency in the Six section (sixty eight) and The Fifth section (twenty four) respectively. Presence of sixty different semantic functions of the wind in Masnavi Moulavi is indicative of Moulavi's particular attention to this natural element and its frequent use so as to design and clarify different discussions along with mystical and ethical concepts. Some of meanings of the wind were also common prior to Moulavi, and some are the result of his creativity. Wind with its common sense meaning, wind used as a worshiping verb, wind purporting pride and egoism, wind as showing mortality, wind as obedient to Hazrat Solomon, wind as the obedient of and worshiping Allah, wind as signifying mobility and creator, wind as indicating ego…, etc. are among the most frequent meanings of the wind in Masnavi.
