Abstract
One of the most important concepts in mysticism is love. Mystics and psychologists consider it as an agent of behavior and knowledge. Such credibility has led to the establishment of diverse and wonderful emotional connections between poets and mystics with love and with other phenomena. Since Rumi has used the word love in his works more frequently than other mystic poets, most researchers argue that his deep emotional connection with love underlies his thought, imagination and behavior. The present study aims at analyzing this notion in Rumi's Divan-e-Shams using Fotouhi's model of emotional ties between the poet and the object. It also set out to examine whether this emotional bond underlies his behaviors. The findings indicated that, firstly, Fotouhi's model was successful in demonstrating the existence or lack of emotional connections between poets and objects (phenomena) and explaining its types. Secondly, it turned out that, between Rumi and love, four main links suggested by Fotouhi's model existed. Even other minor bonds were found. However, the most frequent connection between these two was "description of an object" that is viewed the weakest type of tie between a poet and an object from the perspective of the research model. This type of bond is not emotional at all. Therefore, it can be concluded that the connection between Rumi and love was not emotional.
