Abstract

Abu Bakr Kalabadi is one of the mystics of the fourth century. Unlike his famous book, al-Tarf, his personal life is not very public. The place of his birth and death, i.e. Kolabad neighborhood, has never been scientifically investigated. This article deals with Abu Bakr Kalabadi in two parts.. First, he discussed about his personal life, which includes important matters such as: lineage, elders, works, dates of his birth and death, and in the second part of the article, the word "Kolabad", its different pronunciations, its roots and possible derivations are examined. An attempt has been made to introduce the sources that have spoken about Kalabad and have provided new information about this geographical place among their contents. The main question of this research is whether it is possible to get a new picture of Abu Bakr Kalabadi and his place of life by putting together what is said in various sources about him and his hometown. In this research, we tried to achieve this goal with the method of text analysis based on total induction, that is: gathering all the information related to Kalabadi and especially his place of residence, Kalabad.By examining various texts, important results were obtained, such as: Sayyid Payband, who was one of the elders of Kalabadi, is the same Abul Hasan Hamdani whose name is mentioned in the history of Baghdad and the treatise of Qashiriyyah. Also, the date of death of Kalabadi is most likely the same as 385 AH. and he was born in the beginning of the 4th century. Regarding Kolabad, we can also conclude that: its correct pronunciation is Kolabad and it is not far which is made from two words (kol) meaning wetland and (abad).
