Abstract

In this article, narrative time in the story "Dej Hooshraba" by Maulana Jalaluddin is examined from a structural and narrative perspective. Time in this work is, on the one hand, a fundamental component and, on the other hand, an acquired tool that the narrator uses to shape the narrative. The aim of this research is to analyze narrative time in the aforementioned narrative and its relationship with fictional, philosophical, and moral aspects. Examining narrative time in this story helps the audience better understand how Maulana narrates and establishes an interdisciplinary connection in the literary and artistic fields that has significant effects on the audience. This research was conducted using Gerard Genette's theory on narrative time and with a qualitative and explanatory approach, and in some cases, a quantitative method was also used. Among the most important findings of this research are the frequency of time confusion in the story, continuous changes in the duration and speed of the narrative, increasing negative acceleration versus positive acceleration, and the use of repeated and retelling frequency in the narrative process. By using temporal patterns such as repetition and non-linear order of events, continuity of time, and other patterns, Rumi takes on the responsibility of guiding the audience to religious and mystical knowledge. Throughout the story, Rumi, by stretching time and mystical dialogues between characters, and by creating the attraction and meaning of events over time, has transformed the story into a tool for teaching educational and training concepts and a platform for thinking.
