Abstract

In Islamic mysticism, knowledge of God is not merely a matter of rational argumentation but of immediate, experiential intuition. The Proof of the Sincere (Burhān al-Ṣiddīqīn), one of the key ontological arguments for the existence of God in Islamic philosophy, is based on the acceptance of the principle of reality and existence, reaching the affirmation of the Necessary Being without recourse to any external middle term. This proof—offered in numerous versions by philosophers—is regarded as one of the highest and most rigorous methods of theistic demonstration. This study adopts a mystical-analytic approach to examine how this proof is manifested in Rūmī’s Mathnawī. It argues that, rather than constructing a formal syllogism, Rūmī places the reality of existence within the horizon of direct spiritual intuition. For him, existence is the very self-disclosure (tajallī) of God, and the world is a mirror in which the Divine Face becomes visible in every particle. Through metaphors such as the sun, the sea, love, and even silence, Rūmī offers an experiential and revelatory interpretation of the Proof of the Sincere, presenting God not as an abstract concept but as a living, present Reality—“the sun that is its own proof.” This mystical reading collapses mediating premises and invites the seeker to an unmediated encounter with Divine Presence. The findings suggest that Rūmī’s innovative articulation of the proof provides a model for integrating reason and love, and for moving from rational demonstration to mystical realization in the spiritual journey.
